Classes at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) resumed yesterday after an unscheduled closure of 34 days following a student clash over suspension of classes for watching the Football World Cup. Acting Director of Students Welfare of Buet Prof Jibon Poddar said over 90 percent of students attended their classes and participated in other activities yesterday. On June 19, Buet administration suspended all academic activities and closed the halls for an indefinite period following a clash among students over suspension of classes to watch world cup football 2010 matches that left several students injured. Students returned to their dormitories on Thursday as per the decision of a meeting of the institution's Academic Council on July 20. Prof Jibon said the one-month unscheduled closure has disturbed the institution's continuous education process. He hoped students would deter from any such incidents in the future considering their education and the institution's prestige.
