Speakers demand at Moulvibazar

Moulvibazar Liberation Day was observed here on Saturday with a demand for trial of war criminals. On this day in 1971, freedom fighters liberated Moulvibazar from the occupation of Pakistan Army. The final victory was won after a fierce battle at Baratila near the district town in which 127 members of the Allied Force were killed. Different political and socio-cultural organisations including educational institutions chalked out various programmes to mark the day. The organizations are Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Sramik League, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), National Awami Party (NAP- Muzaffar), Moulvibazar Government High School, Kashinath High School and Flowers KG and High School. Wreaths were placed at the Central Shaheed Minar in the morning. This was followed by a procession in the town. A discussion was held at the Central Shaheed Minar in the evening. All the speakers have demanded trial of war criminals without further delay. Among others, Md Azizur Rahman, a freedom fighter and a former member of the Constituent Assembly (MCA), freedom fighter Md Azizur Rahman, Awami League leader Syed Mohsin Ali, freedom fighter Prof Fayzur Rahman, district AL general secretary Nesar Ahmed, Jubo League president Fazlur Rahman and JSD leader Nazimuddin Nazrul addressed.
