Rokeya Day observed in Rangpur

Begum Rokeya Day was observed here yesterday in a befitting manner. The district administration has undertaken a three-day programme including discussion, cultural function and exhibition of handicrafts at Payerabond in Mithapukur to mark the day. Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Shafiul Islam inaugurated the exhibition of handicrafts at Payerabond. A discussion on 'Rokeya's Thoughts on Emancipation of Women' was held at Payerabond memorial centre. Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Khondoker Atiar Rahman chaired the discussion while Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Shafiul Alam was present as chief guest. Among others, Rangpur superintendent of police (SP) Hasif Aziz and former principal of Carmichael College Prof Nur-un-Nabi Chowdhury addressed. Earlier, Begum Rokeya Forum organised a discussion on 'Life and Struggle of Begum Rokeya' at Rangpur Town Hall in the morning. Shilpakala Academy and Bhawaiya Academy of Rangpur organised discussions and cultural functions at the Central Shaheed Minar.
