Outlaws kill BNP leader in Jhenidah
A BNP leader has been bombed and shot dead allegedly by outlaws at Shishutala near Dhopabila village in Sadar upazila.
The victim is Anwar Hossain,32, son of Abdul Halim of Dhopabila village in Sadar upazila, police said.
Police said, Anwar was going to his house at Dhopabila from Shailomari bazaar riding a bi-cycle Saturday night. When he reached Shishutala, criminals waylaid him and hurled a bomb targeting him. Later, they shot at him resulting in his instantaneous death.
Rajib Ahmed, a Janajuddah cadre of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-ML) claimed responsibility for the killing. He said Anwar was killed because he used to collect tolls introducing himself an activist of Janjuddah. Locals said, Anwar was a PBCP activist. Later, he joined BNP and was elected president of Krishak Dal.
When contacted, Jhenidah Sadar police station officer-in charge (OC) Sayed Iqbal said Anwar was killed by his rivals. Police rushed the to spot and recovered the body. They sent it to Jhenidah hospital morgue for autopsy.
