VAT on education?
The decision of imposing 4.5% VAT on the private universities is a very wise decision of this government. Because in some cases, the owners of these institutions are making profit much higher than the industrialists (albeit most of them claim their organisations to be non-profit). These universities are taking tens of thousands of taka from the students as tuition fees (most of the time without showing any logical reason). They increase their tuition fees now and then without any permission from UGC or relevant authorities. So it is not VAT on education, rather VAT on business.
But the worst thing is that the owners of these universities have just thrown the VAT over the students without any hesitation! Indeed, it is a matter of serious concern for the students as well as the guardians.
However, the students of these institutions should not blame the government for this decision and should not be violent. I think they should ask their authorities first why they transferred their own burden to the students.
