Gunmen for VCs!
According to a news item published recently in the press, the government is considering to provide public university Vice Chancellors (VCs) with gunmen to ensure their safety. A letter has been sent by the Council of Vice Chancellors to the Ministry of Education recommending deployment of gunmen for VCs security inside and outside their campuses.
It is really unfortunate that the chief executives of the highest seats of learning are seeking gunmen for their safety and security!
Meanwhile, myself being a public university professor I can very well appreciate the depth of the problem, and in the context of the present situation VCs' demand for gunmen is logical and the govt may approve it. At the same time efforts should be intensified from all the corners to make university campuses free from any adverse activities and violence.
