HC stays proceedings of cases against Farroque
The High Court (HC) yesterday stayed for two months the proceedings against Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque in 15 cases filed on charge for making "derogatory remarks" about prime minister's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
The cases were filed in differernt dsistricts, including Dhaka, by local Awami League leaders for Farroque's alleaged statement that Joy has been doing illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) business from abroad causing a loss of Tk 1,500 crore to the state exchequer.
Following separate petitions filed by Farroque, an HC bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque yesterday also issued separate rules upon the government to explain within four weeks why the proceedings against Farroque should not be quashed.
Eaerlier, the BNP lawmaker got bail from the HC in the cases.
Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain appeared for the petitioner.
