Phensidyl, sarees seized in Ctg

Police and members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) recovered 700 bottles of phensidyl and Indian sharees worth around Tk 5.5 lakh from Ice Factory Road and Chittagong Railway Station yesterday. Police arrested three drug peddlers, Badiul Alam, 25, Sohel, 25, and Monir Hossain, 18, with a microbus in connection with smuggling the phensidyl. On information, a squad of police from Double-mooring Police Station detained a microbus at Ice Factory Road at around 4:00am. Seven hundred bottles of phensidyl were recovered from the microbus and three drug-peddlers Sohel, the microbus driver, Badiul and Monir were arrested, said Assistant Commissioner Tanvir Arafat of the police station. The phensidyls were being brought to city's Barisal Colony, a drug trading spot, from Chouddagram of Comilla district, Tanvir said. In another raid, acting on a tip off, members of Rab seized 223 Indian sharees worth around Tk 5.5 lakh from three compartments of Udayan Express at Chittagong Railway Station at around 8:30am. The sharees were found in four plastic sacks in the compartments of the train that reached Chittagong from Sylhet. None could be arrested in this connection, sources said.
