Nine killed in road accidents

At least nine people were killed and 27 others injured in separate road accidents in Mymensingh, Pabna, Tangail and Jhenidah yesterday and Sunday. Our Correspondent from Mymensingh reports: A motorbike rider was crushed by a truck on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the Baghan area in Trishal upazila at around 3:30am yesterday. The deceased was identified as Babul Hossain, 32, a fish trader of village Panchpara of Trishal. Our Correspondent from Pabna says: Two people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents here yesterday. Two people were killed and five others injured when a loaded nasiman collided head-on with a tempo on Sujanagar-Chinakhora road at Joshomonto-Dulia village at noon. The deceased was identified as Md Badsha Pramanik, 35, of village Hemrajpur. The injured were admitted to Sujanagar Health Complex. The condition of the tempo driver was stated to be critical. In another incident, a nasiman ran over a passer-by, named Abdul Kuddus, on the Pabna-Sujanagar road at Tatipara village at around 12:3pm yesterday. Kuddus died on the spot. Our Correspondent from Tangail adds: Three people were killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Tangail road in Mirzapur on Sunday and yesterday. Police said two people were killed and 20 others injured when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus collided with a speeding truck at Asimtola early yesterday and another Dhaka-bound bus crashed into the rear of the accident-hit bus. One of the bus drivers and a passenger, identified as Jahangir Hossain of Bengula village of Kalihati upazila, were killed in the accident. Of the injured, 18 were admitted to the Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital. In a different incident, Masudul Karim, general secretary of Bahuria union unit Awami League, was run over by a speeding passenger bus while he was crossing the road on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway at Mirzapur Bypass on Sunday evening. Seriously injured Masud was rushed to the Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital. Masud succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Our correspondent from Jhenidah says: Three people were killed and two others injured when a sand-laden truck turned upside down and fell into a ditch near Salabhara bus stand in Kaliganj upazila on Sunday night. The deceased were identified as Shamsuddin of Kushtia, 60, Golam Nabi of Baribathan village of Sadar upazila, 45, and Shukur Ali of Gayashpur village of same, 48. They were all Sugarcane vendors. The injured were admitted to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex. The bodies were sent to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police said the accident occurred at midnight Sunday when the truck was trying to give side to a vehicle and fell off the road.
