10 killed in road accidents

At least 10 people were killed and 15 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Dinajpur, Moulvibazar and Sylhet yesterday and Monday. Staff Correspondent reports: Three people were killed in separate road accidents in the capital yesterday. One of the deceased was identified as Arfan Ali, 40, a rickshaw-van puller of Uttara but the identity of two women could not be known immediately. Police said Arfan was crushed under the wheels of a speeding truck in city's Mollertek area of Dakkhinkhan around 6:30am. Police said a Tongi-bound truck hit him while he was crossing Dhaka-Mymensingh road at Section 4 in Uttara. Locals detained the truck and its driver Azizur Rahman and handed over to police. Police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) morgue for autopsy. An unidentified girl aged about was run over by a car near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 6:00am. Police said the vehicle sped away crushing her. The body has been sent to DMC morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile, an elderly woman aged about 60 was crushed under the wheels of a vehicle on Dhaka-Ashulia road near Panchabati area about 12:00am. Our Correspondent from Dinajpur reports: Four people were killed in separate road accidents in Dinajpur yesterday and Monday. Two people identified as Sanwar Sanu, 22, son of Md Abdus Sattar of village Paippara of Kaharol upazila, and Nurunnabi, 26, son of Abdullah of Birganj died on the spot in a head-on collision between two motorcycles on the Dinajpur-Thakurgaon highway on Monday night. Sanwar Hossain, 60, was killed when a shallow engine-run three-wheeler turned upside down on the Dinajpur-Chirirbandar road at Karenthat village early yesterday. Abu Mia, a helper of a Ghraghat-bound passenger bus, was killed and 10 others were when the bus fell into a roadside ditch as its driver lost his control over the steering on Dinajpur-Ghoraghat Highway at Bhaduria village. The injured were taken to Ghoraghat Health Complex. Our Correspondent from Moulvibazar adds: Two motorcycle riders were killed and another was injured when a passenger bus hit the motorcycle on the Moulvibazar-Dhaka road in Moulvibazar yesterday. The dead were identified as Belal, 21, son of Rafique Miah of Kazirgaon area of the town and Emdad, 18, son of Somed Miah of Dargah Moholla area of the town. The injured identified as Abul, 20, was rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. The accident occurred when a Moulvibazar-bound bus hit a motorcycle, leaving Belal and Emdad dead on the spot. Mafizul Alam, sub-inspector of Moulvibazar police station, said the bus has been seized. A case has been filed in this connection. Staff correspondent from Sylhet says: A female passenger of an autorickshaw was killed and four others were injured in a road accident on Sylhet-Tamabil Highway on Tilagarh point yesterday. Locals said the accident took place at 1:30pm as a speeding pick-up van hit an autorickshaw from behind and overturned. The dead was identified as Hasina Begum, 45, wife of Mainuddin of Islampur colony in the city. The on-duty doctors declared Hasina dead at the Osmani Medical College Hospital. The injured were rushed to the same hospital.
