Two years after construction, the victory memorial on the compound of Satkhira Collectorate is yet to be inaugurated as names of fake freedom fighters and a rajakar are still on the plaque containing the names of martyred freedom fighters. Faced with protest by freedom fighters and pro-liberation forces, the authorities could not inaugurate the memorial built in 2005 as names of four fake freedom fighters and a razakar (collaborator of Pakistan occupation forces) were included on the victory memorial plaque. The Liberation War Affairs Ministry is yet to erase the names despite submission of written application and a memorandum by the Satkhira district Muktijoddha Sangsad in 2006 and this year. The memorial plaque contains names of 31 freedom fighters but names of many other martyred freedom fighters have been left out, local leaders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad said. The plaque contains the names of at least four fake freedom fighters and a rajakar, said Abu Bakkar Siddique, member secretary of Satkhira district command of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad. Freedom fighters have urged the government to inaugurate the memorial after removing the names of a rajakar and four fake freedom fighters as early as possible so that people can pay homage to the martyrs.
