Assailed by unfortunate events
Not a single day passes without some heart-wrenching news reaching us, it seems that death is lurking everywhere, in our homes, on the streets, in the rivers, on the railway tracks, and there is no end to it. Numerous accidents are happening every day; in addition, murder, dacoity and arson have gone up alarmingly. People have become deeply frightened and very upset, as the future seems very bleak.
Boraigram Upazilla Chairman, Sanaullah Noor Babu, was killed allegedly by Awami League activists who swooped on the BNP procession and started beating them; as a result he succumbed to his injuries. It is a very shocking act.
How could the Awami League activists dare do such a heinous crime? Have they become very sure that nothing will happen to them since they belong to the ruling party? It is quite clear that dropping of all charges against Dr. HBM Iqbal and AL MP Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon, who were accused of killing four people by firing on the BNP procession on February 13, 2001, has emboldened them.
The Prime Minister has said that the killers of Babu would be brought to justice. We want to see action. The victim's family says that the killers are roaming freely. The IGP has said that they have identified the suspected killers and the law enforcers were trying their best to arrest them. But the victim's family has claimed that some of the killers were seen with the police after the murder. If this is the condition of our police department, then we can easily imagine what the future holds for us.
