A little help eases his hardship

Mozammel Hossain Babul will no longer have to pedal rickshaw with one leg as he has got a grocery shop, thanks to the generosity of Apex Bangladesh Foundation (ABF). Apparently a photograph published in The Daily Star on August 28 this year has meant a blessing for Babul, 37, who lost a leg in an accident in Dhaka in 1995. ABF contributed Tk 30,000 for Babul to run a grocery shop to be self-reliant at his village Kallayan Pur in Sadar Upazila here. After Babul got his leg injuries in the accident, he had to stay at Orthopaedic Hospital for over three months and one of his legs was amputated, he said. But as the lone bread earner of his four-member family, he had to start pulling rickshaw again in Dhaka. Babul's photo published in The Daily Star moved Shah Kamal Uddin, a former chairman of ABF. He along with other executives of ABF decided to help Babul earn a better living with honour. With the donation of Tk 30,000 from ABF, Babul started a grocery shop at his village home on Sunday. ABF executives and officials were present as the shop was opened. "I will try my best to change my economic condition with the support from ABF," said Babul, a father of two children.
