Model livestock service centre at Sunamganj village
A model livestock service centre has been set up at Dhanpur Union Parishad (UP) Bhaban in Bishwamvorpur upazila under Sunamganj district.
Voluntary Association for Rural Development (VARD) established the 'FoSHoL Union Livestock Services Center' as part of 18 such centres to be piloted by FoSHoL-ActionAid livestock component across the country aiming at protecting poultry birds from bird flu through intensive Ranikhet vaccination.
European Commission is funding the project while it is being implemented jointly by Livestock Department, Government of Bangladesh (GOB), UP and communities concerned.
Dr Dhirendra Kumar Poddar, district livestock officer (DLO), Directorate of Livestock Services (DLS), Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock inaugurated the centre as chief guest. Shahid Uddin Mahmood, deputy director (programme) of VARD chaired the occasion. IRRI Representative of Bangladesh Dr Zainul Abedin was present as special guest.
FoSHoL and VARD jointly organized the programme recently under FoSHoL Project of ActionAid Bangladesh.
Lutfun Nahar, associate coordinator-OD, FoSHoL-ActionAid, Dr Md Ishak, ULO-Sunamganj Sadar, Dr Md Hasin Ahmed Chowdhury, Veterinary Surgeon, Hazrat Ali Sohel, Chairmen, Dhanpur UP, FoSHoL-VARD team leader, IDO, FoSHoL-VARD team members, para-vets, vaccinators and farmer representatives of FoSHoL were present. Kabir Mallik of FoSHoL-ActionAid has been coordinating the overall activities of the project.
