30 cattle drown as 2 boats capsize in Jamuna
Thirty sacrificial animals drowned and 27 others were injured as two engine boats capsized in the Jamuna in last two days, police said.
Police sources said the first incident occurred at around 10:30 am yesterday near Aricha terminal under Shivalaya police station. At that time, an engine boat loaded with cattle collided with another cattle-loaded engine boat. As a result, 11 cattle drowned while 10 others were injured.
Bodiar Rahman, a cattle trader of Bachamara under Daulatpur police station said the cattle traders along with 21 cattle on board the engine boats were going to Gabtoli cattle market from Kalyanpur of Shivalaya through Aricha.
Another accident occurred on Tuesday at Charkatari under Daulatpur police station when the Gabtoli-bound cattle- loaded engine boat capsized due to overloading. As a result, 19 cattle died and 17 others were injured.
Rowshan Mollah of Charkatari said seven cattle traders on board another engine boat were going to the destination with 36 cattle. The boat capsized after it crossed one-and-a-half-kilometer path.
