Rangpur town wore a festive look yesterday centering the 175th founding anniversary of Rangpur Zila School. A two-day colourful programme began on the school premises with the theme, 'School Should be the Second Home for Children.' About 10,000 present and former students of the school gathered on its compound on the occasion. Noted educationist and environmentalist Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed inaugurated the programme as chief guest in presence of 22 freedom fighters and three language movement veterans who were former students of the school. A colourful procession was brought in the town marking the occasion. President Iajuddin Ahmed, Chief Advisor Fakhruddin Ahmed, Education Advisor Ayub Quadri, Chief of Army Staff Moeen U Ahmed gave separate messages. Other programmes included discussion, cultural function, photographic exhibition and video documentary show. Rangpur Zila School was established in 1832.
