'Shun hartal, work for country'
A number of non-government organisations yesterday urged ulamas to call off the hartal on December 26.
In a written statement, they also made the call to work for the development of the country and shun the politics of hartal.
The statement says the hartal was called protesting an education policy that is secular.
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Ainjibi Parishad, Jatiyo Gonotantrik League, Muktijoddha Palli Society, and Muktijoddha Bohumukhi Unnayan Samity signed the statement.
Similar statement against the hartal was sent by Bangladesh Nari Mukti Andolon, Bangladesh Nagorik Samaj, Bangladesh Garments Sramik Trade Union Kendra, Dakkhin Bangla Jubo Kallayan Samity, Mehendiganj Unnayan Sangram Parishad and Dakkhin Bangla Chhatra Kallayan Samity.
