Road crashes kill 3, injure 41
At least three people were killed and 41 others injured in seperate road accidents in Benapole, Jhenidah and Noakhali yesterday.
A correspondent from Benapole reports: one person was killed and 30 others injured in a road accident on Jessore-Narail highway near Baulia intersection in Jessore Sadar upazila.
The deceased is Al Amin, 35, son of Amin Ali hailed from Bhaina village under Sadar upazila of Jessore.
Police and local sources said the accident occurred at about 10:00am when a driver of a Jessore-bound passenger bus from Narail lost his control over steering and hit a road side tree, leaving Al Amin dead on the spot and injuring 30 others.
Of the injured, 21 were rushed to Jessore Hospital and two were shifted to Dhaka as their condition was deteriorating.
Our correspondent from Jhenidah adds: A truck driver was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Jhenidah on Jhenidah-Jessore highway near Kayergachi village.
The deceased is Rezaul Islam alias Reza, 30, son of Ahed Ali of Erulia Bamdighi village under Pabna district.
Mirazul Islam, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station, said the accident took place at about 3:30am when two trucks collided head-on leaving Rezaul dead on the spot.
Two passengers of the truck were injured. They are undergoing treatment at Jhenidah Sadar Hospital.
Police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
A correspondent from Noakhali says: One person was killed and nine others were injured in seperate road accidents in Sadar and Chatkhil upazila of the district.
Police and locals said the first accident took place around 8:00am on Sonapur-Kalamunshi road under Sadar upazila when a microbus collided head-on with a CNG-run auto rickshaw, leaving one person dead on the spot and injuring five others.
The deceased was identified as Shahid Ullah Masud, 40, president of Sundolpur union Jamaat-e-Islami.
The injured were rushed to local clinics.
Meanwhile, another accident occurred around 10:00am near Kachari Bazar area on Chatkhil-Ramganj road when a microbus collided head-on with a power tiller, leaving four seriously injured.
Of the injured, driver of the power tiller Foyez, 35, was rushed to Noakhali General Hospital in critical condition.
