Prof Yunus Murder

'Execute court verdict'

RU Correspondent
Teachers and socio-political organisations at Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday demanded immediate execution of the verdict in the Prof Yunus murder case. Marking the 6th death anniversary of Prof Muhammad Yunus who was knifed to death while on a morning walk near the campus on December 24, 2004, speakers called upon the government to take immediate steps in this regard. At a rally, speakers alleged that though a Rajshahi court on January 28 this year delivered the verdict where two JMB leaders were sentenced to death by hanging, it is yet to be executed. Prof Muhklesur Rahman, president of Bangabandhu Teachers Council, said Prof Yunus was murdered, as he never compromised with injustice. Leaders and activists of Muktijoddha Sontan Command, Kendrio Sangskritik Jote, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, JSD Chhatra League, Chhatra Union and Chhatra Moitree also demanded immediate execution of the verdict. The two on death sentence are Shahidullah and Shafiullah.
