PM's adviser meets Indian home minister

Dr Mushiur Rahman, adviser to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Thursday met Indian Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram and discussed the current initiatives to strengthen bilateral cooperation. During the meeting, which took place at Chidambaram's North Block office, Mushiur, accompanied by Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Tariq Ahmed Karim, also discussed the present status of the initiatives and how to go about with them in the future. The meeting covered different aspects of bilateral cooperation, Karim told reporters after the meeting without elaborating. It is understood that the talks covered the major initiatives outlined in the Joint Statement issued after Hasina's landmark visit to New Delhi in January this year. The two countries embarked on cooperation in a number of areas including power, connectivity, river-water sharing and settlement of border issues. The issue of security cooperation between the two countries was also understood to have come up for discussion.
