Degradation of BSMMU VC demanded
Recently terminated and degraded doctors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) yesterday demanded degradation of the current Vice Chancellor Prof Pran Gopal Datta.
Under the banner of Doctors Association of Bangladesh, BSMMU wing, the doctors pressed their demand at a human chain in front of the National Press Club in the city.
The doctors also said the current vice chancellor has an MCPS degree, which is not a professional degree and does not qualify him even as an assistant professor.
Drawing the attention of the president, they claimed that they were recruited and promoted as per the university law and following syndicate approval.
They said the report of the Shahjahan Committee mentioned that there were no irregularities in their recruitment and promotion.
But overlooking that report, the present authorities of BSMMU and the Parliamentary Standing Committee followed the report of Nazrul Committee and sacked the doctors on December 22, they said.
A total of 28 teachers were sacked while 13 lost their current position and were degraded.
Oncology department former chairman Dr SM Rafikul Islam Bachchu, Orthopedics department former chairman Syed Akram Hussain, Shirajuddin Ahmed, Prof M A Mannan and Dr Saiful Islam Selim were present at the human chain, among others.
