Education Policy
Every religion emphasised
Say speakers
The National Education Policy-2010 significantly emphasised on every religion and the people who are raising questions about the policy either did not read it or have some political motive behind their move, said speakers at a discussion yesterday.
Urging the government to start full implementation of the policy immediately, they said the policy is appropriate for the country as it reflects opinion of people from all strata of life.
Peshajibi Shamannay Parishad organised the discussion titled 'Complete implementation of National Education Policy-2010' at city's National Press Club.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, speaking at the discussion as the chief guest, said implementation of the policy is a lengthy process and the government has already started implementing the policy's strategies.
The new education policy was being widely accepted from all and so its implementation will have to begin immediately for the sake of the country's education system, said Dhaka University Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique.
Noted academic of Dhaka University Prof M Akhtaruzzaman said the policy has so far passed many acid tests including a hartal call.
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology VC Prof Dr Nazrul Islam said except the new education policy, madrasa education was involved with none of the policy recommendations formulated so far in the country.
The new policy is an appropriate educational one as it involves modernising madrasa education with emphasis on science, technology, engineering, mathematics and moral education, he said.
Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, president of the parishad, and Prof Dr Mahmud Hasan, president of Bangladesh Medical Association, also spoke on the occasion.
