Unb, Dhaka
Main opposition BNP has accused the government of gradually jeopardising the parliamentary democratic politics in the country, by obstructing the opposition in carrying out its normal political activities. “Unfortunately, the present situation is not congenial for democracy. The government speaks about democracy but in practice applies all kinds of repressive measures to harm the opposition,” BNP senior joint secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told the news agency. Talking to news agency at the BNP central office yesterday afternoon, Fakhrul spoke future thinking. He said the opposition is not being allowed to speak in parliament on burning national issues. On the other hand, the government is also obstructing opposition's democratic exercise outside parliament. Fakhrul described how innumerable leaders and workers of BNP were “repressed” by the government by filing false cases and through arrests, attacks and harassment. About future movement, the BNP leader said a tough movement will be forged in a democratic way through rallies, road march, long march and hartal. Replying to another question, he said the BNP chairperson will begin political tours to greater districts in January after the municipality elections.
