Seven hurt in clash at SUST
Seven students of Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) were seriously injured in a clash over a trivial matter near the campus yesterday.
The clash followed a previous enmity between BCL activists Rajib, Samiu and Abir with Habibur Rahman, another student of the university, over managing tickets during Eid-ul-Fitr.
The university proctorial body at a meeting last night expelled Habibur temporarily while the university authorities filed a case against him with Kotwali Police Station. He was later handed over to police.
Witnesses said some BCL men attacked Habibur, student of the Department of Food Engineering and Tea Technology, inside a university bus at Surma residential area around 4:30pm.
Habibur defended himself with a sharp knife, injuring six BCL men. On information, some BCL activities equipped with rods and hockey sticks beat up Habibur seriously.
SUST Proctor ASM Saiful Islam, Assistant Proctor Faruqe Uddin and police rushed to the spot and calmed the situation.
The assistant proctor said, “Legal action will be taken against those responsible for creating chaos on the campus.”
The injured along with Habibur were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
