Create awareness against corruption
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury yesterday said eradication of corruption will help to raise our standard of living.
Corruption should be removed before enhancement of salary of the government officials, he said at a view exchange meeting with the elites of Moulvibazar district at Shaid Zia auditorium of Moulvibazar Government College.
"Misuse of power is a much bigger corruption than Taking bribe is. And corruption will not be removed, even if the salary of government officials increase. Officials enjoying higher salary are often found to take more bribe," the ACC chief said.
"Through combating corruption, Malaysia and Singapore have reached a respectable place in the world. If corruption is removed, our standard of living will also be increased," he said.
Gen Mashhud said ACC offices are receiving allegations of huge corruption everyday, but most of them are not within the jurisdiction of the ACC.
He sought the help of media for anti-corruption activities.
Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner Md Alkama Siddiquee and Superintendent of Police Md Khurshid Hussain also spoke at the meeting.
Later, the ACC chairman attended another view exchange meeting with the leaders and workers of Moulvibazar district committee of 'Social Movement to Resist Corruption' (SMRC) at Moulvibazar Circuit House.
There will be no room for corrupt people in the corruption resistance committees formed at district and upazila levels, he said, adding that only after confirming the transparency of assets and past records of the committee members, those committees will be made active.
