BDR Mutiny Case
71 more BGB mutineers jailed
Seventy-one jawans of 17 Rifles Battalion, Sadar Sector, of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were sentenced to different jail terms ranging from six months to seven years yesterday for their involvement in the 2009 mutiny in Cox's Bazar.
The Special Court-16 led by BGB Rangamati Sector Commander Col Md Bashirul Islam also fined each of the convicts Tk 100.
The court in presence of the accused pronounced the verdict at Cox's Bazar BGB 17 Battalion Headquarters. The court started delivering judgment at 10:00am, which continued till 11:00am.
Twelve of the convicts were jailed for seven years, thirteen for six years, six for five years, four for four years, one for three years, three for two and a half years, twelve for two years, four for one and a half years, fifteen for one year and one for six months.
The convicts revolted to express their solidarity with the mutineers of BDR headquarters at Pilkhana where 74 people, including 54 army officers were killed.
