Govt to set up varsity in all districts: Nahid
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday told the House that the government has a plan to establish university in every district in phases to provide higher education at home.
The minister said this in a reply to a question from lawmaker Lutfur Rahman. Cox's Bazar might get a public university in near future, said Nahid.
He informed the parliament that the country has as many as 32 pubic universities and 51 private universities approved by the government.
Replying to a question from lawmaker Nasimul Alam Chowdhury, the minister said the government also has a plan to establish polytechnic institute in each district.
The government has brought 1,624 educational institutions under Monthly Payment Order (MPO), Nahid said in a reply to another question from M Shah Alam.
This would be continued in the current fiscal, he said adding that the government will soon undertake a programme to bring more educational institutions under the MPO.
In reply to Khandaker Abdul Baten's query, Nahid said the government is planning to establish technical university in each upazila in the light of national education policy.
As part of the plan, the minister said, a project has already been taken to set up polytechnic institute primarily in 35 upazilas.
