MMCH interns go on strike
Intern doctors of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) went on a strike beginning yesterday noon following attacks on students and intern doctors of Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) by some local men on Thursday night.
Police arrested one Arif alis Dish Arif after MMC Principal Dr Md Aminul Haque filed a case with the local police station yesterday.
Five of around 25 students and intern doctors injured during the attacks are undergoing treatment in MMCH.
Police said the local men started beating Arif, a fifth year student, when he protested harassment of his female classmate by the men in front of the MMCH nurses canteen around 7:30pm on Thursday.
Students working at different wards rushed to the spot and retaliated. Within half an hour, a gang of some 25 youths allegedly led by Dish Arif, Shafiqur Rahman, Sagar, Ujjal and Dulal, equipped with sharp weapons and sticks, came back and started beating the students, police said.
