Appoint more judges in labour courts
Urges BGWUC
Bangladesh Garment Workers Unity Council yesterday submitted a memorandum to State Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Md Qamrul Islam urging to make labour courts effective by appointing more judges and reduce backlog of cases.
Of over 4,000 cases stuck in the present three operating labour courts, around 3,500 are pending with the first court while 600 in the second, said the memorandum.
It also mentioned that trial of a case is taking more than four to five years nowadays, discouraging workers to go to court and judge of the third court is sick and needs to be sent to retirement.
The memorandum, signed by the council's coordinator, alleged that the courts do not continue official work after lunch though official proceedings in other types of courts are held from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
