List of women victims of Pak army on cards
PM tells parliament
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said the government is considering the possibility of preparing a list of women who were abused by the occupation Pakistani army and their collaborators during the Liberation War.
Replying to a supplementary question from Tahura Ali (Women Seat-19) during the question-answer session in parliament, Hasina said “At first, we have to think about the acceptability of this kind of list. Will all families accept it?”
The present social condition of the country is not conducive to accept such a list, she said.
The PM said if the list containing the names and addresses of abused women are prepared, all will be humiliated.
Describing various steps taken by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to rehabilitate the abused women after the independence, the PM said many of these women now have husbands and children.
“Such a list may disrupt their family life,” she said.
Hasina said the nation always remembers their sacrifices with respect.
Replying to a starred question of Tahura Ali, Hasina said some portions of the Independence Monument at Suhrawardy Udyan will be opened for all from March 7.
These are: underground museum, audio-visual room, fountain mural, plaza square and open drama stage.
The PM mentioned that construction of the 150-feet tall glass tower of the monument would be completed by June next year.
