The European Union (EU) is keen to support Bangladesh to build infrastructure and strengthen democracy, human rights and rule of law. The EU interest was conveyed when newly appointed EU ambassador to Bangladesh William Hanna presented his credentials to President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban in the city yesterday. The new ambassador highly lauded Bangladesh for playing a leading role in implementing various programmes in the international arena. Hanna noted that Bangladesh exports to the EU countries that include readymade garments are of good quality. Zillur said Bangladesh is committed to upholding the rule of law, democracy and human rights in the country. “There is free media and independent judiciary in the country.” He said Bangladesh always supports international peace and stability and it also stands against all sorts of terrorism. He said Bangladesh has excellent bilateral relations with the EU countries since it had started in 1973. Describing the EU as one of the development partners of Bangladesh, he hoped that these relations will be further strengthened in the coming days.
