At least 10 persons including two policemen were injured as the law enforcers charged batons on the demonstrating power-starved people after they attacked the Power Development Board (PDB) office in Sakhipur upazila of Tangail yesterday. Police also detained two persons -- Abdul Malek and Bulbul Ahmed -- from the spot, Officer-in-Charge Mozammel Haque Mamun of Sakhipur Police Station said. About 1,000 people of Kirtankhola village and other adjacent villages in the upazila attacked the PDB office around 12:00noon protesting frequent load shedding in the beginning of the Boro season. They damaged doors, windowpanes and furniture of the office. A team of Sakhipur police rushed to the spot on information and charged truncheons to disperse the agitators. The demonstrators also threw brick bats on them. Ten persons were injured in police action. The people in the upazila are getting only 3MW electricity against the demand of 10MW during Boro season, PDB sources said.
