Cancel reserved seats for women
Demand speakers
Speakers at a discussion yesterday urged the government to implement national women development policy and take effective steps to stop violence and repression against women both at home and work.
They also demanded cancellation of reserved seats for women in parliament so that women can contest in elections with others, hence ensuring their political empowerment.
The discussion styled “Transportation Service and Women” was organised by Bachte Shekho Nari (BSN) at Dhaka Reporters' Unity in the city on the eve of International Women's Day.
Speakers placed a 15-point demand including to keep 30 percent reserved seats for women in public transports, making it mandatory to leave the reserved seats in presence of women and ensuring equal rights of ready made garment workers.
Bangladesher Sammobadi Dal Politburo Member Abu Hamed Sahabuddin, women's leader Afroza Parvin and Tahmina Rahman also addressed the programme with BSN President Feroza Begum in the chair. Celebrating the day for women, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Narigrantha Probortona and Bangladesh Mahila Parishad organised seminars, rallies, discussions and roundtable programmes at different places in the city yesterday.
