The University Grants Commission (UGC) has underscored the need for coordinated efforts of the universities, the government, and the UGC to improve the standard of higher educations and researches. “Standard of higher education and research of any university of our country has not held good position in international and regional rating,” said the UGC's recent annual report. The report said it is essential to undertake coordinated activities of the concerned universities, the government and the UGC to rid of this condition. “The UGC-taken Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project will play an important role in this regard.” The UGC also laid emphasis on opening quality assurance and monitoring cell in the respective universities for the holistic development of higher education. To ensure quality higher education, the report said, universities will have to create congenial atmosphere, appoint competent teachers, maintain balanced student-teachers ratio, enrich laboratory facilitations, build suitable infrastructures, and ensure facilities for students' physical, mental, and spiritual development. The UGC suggested introducing exchange programme of the officials of the commission and equal institutions among the Saarc, OIC, and APQN-Asia Pacific quality Network, EU members and others countries to increase communication and cooperation among them for expanding the scope of higher education.
