At least 15 people were injured as police baton-charged protesting workers of a pharmaceutical company in Dhamrai, outskirts of the capital, yesterday. Police came in action after workers of Acme Laboratories blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway with the demand of an 8-hour working period and pay rise. Dhamrai OC SM Alamgir Hossain, however, denied baton-charging and said police dispersed the protesting workers before they put barricade. Acme employees working on daily basis claimed that they get only Tk 105-120 and are forced to work over 10 hours a day.
