Counter terrorism bureau on cards
The government has planned to set up counter terrorism bureau of police and appoint an inspector at each police station for investigating cases, Home Minister Sahara Khatun said yesterday.
In response to lawmakers' queries, the home minister was speaking in parliament about the government's plans for modernisation of the police force.
The government has also plans to set up gradually tourist police, marine police and campus police, she said.
In a scripted answer, the home minister said the government has taken some other important measures including providing modern equipment, adequate vehicles and modern training to police force.
In response to another query, she said a police member's involvement in politics is against departmental discipline. She said her ministry is examining whether any police member has political link.
On border killing, she said Bangladesh government has proposed that the Indian Border Security Force use rubber bullets to avoid killing of Bangladeshi nationals in the border areas.
"Indian government has assured us of using rubber bullets," she added.
