AL-backed panel sweeps Ruta polls

Awami League-backed yellow panel swept to victory in all 15 posts of Rajshahi University Teachers' Association (Ruta) in yesterday's election against BNP's white panel. The election to the Ruta's 15-member executive committee was held at Juberi Bhaban from 8:00am to 2:00pm yesterday. Yellow panel's Prof Dr Musfiq Ahmed of geology and mining department, Prof Sadekul Arefin Matin of social work, Dr Hasan Ahmad of chemistry, Dr Madan Mohan De of accounting, and Dr Shahrier Zaman of genetics engineering department were elected president, general secretary, treasurer, vice president, and joint secretary respectively. The 10 elected members of yellow panel are Md Obaidur Rahman Pramanik of accounting, Dr Narayan Ray of biochemistry, Sayed ali Reza of management, Muhammad Zahurul Islam of geography, Dr M Shazahan of physics, Md Fazlul Karim of fine arts, Dr Biswanath Sikdar of genetics engineering, Md Abul Kalam Azad (1) of applied chemistry, Dr M Nazrul Islam of zoology, and M Faruk-uz-Zaman of history department. Prof Sultan-ul-Islam of geology and mining department conducted the election as the chief election commissioner. At least 933 Ruta members are reported to have voted.
