Bicycle service introduced at DU

The 'Campus-based Cycle Service Programme' was launched on Dhaka University (DU) campus yesterday to ease movement of the students and protect the environment. DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the programme at the feet of Aparajeyo Bangla. Representatives from different environmental organisations were also present said a press release of Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA). Under this programme, a total of 25 bicycles were introduced on the campus. Out of them, Work for Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust has donated 19 bicycles, Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) donated 5 and an individual gave one. Initially, two spots of the campus will be used as bicycle stands. One-in front of the Arts Building and another-in front of Carzon Hall. Students will have to collect membership card to use those bicycles. The DU VC said the number bicycles will be increased soon and more students will get benefit from the service, as it is just the starting of a great cause. Environmental organisation Green Belt Trust in association with the university administration will run the maintenance activities of the bicycles.
