Fifth census begins tomorrow

The government starts fifth Population and Housing Census 2011 tomorrow to enumerate the country's population, families and households. The census, being conducted by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), will continue till March 19. President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages calling upon the countrymen to provide accurate information to the enumerators. For the first time, the government is using digital enumeration map to ensure each and every part of the country comes under the census. The country has been divided into 130 census districts for the census. The census night has been fixed from zero hour to 6:00am on March 15 when the floating people will be counted. In the census, enumerators will directly go to the households, interview the citizens to collect data on their socio-economic status. People on board and on duty will be counted in their usual residence. Population census is conducted once in each ten years. The last one was done in 2001.
