AL favourites take both mayor posts
Awami League-backed two candidates won the Brahmanbaria and Jhenidah municipal polls yesterday.
AL-backed Helal Uddin won from Brahmanbaria municipality while Shechchasebak League member Saidul Karim Mintu won Jhenidah municipal elections.
Helal Uddin bagged 26,207 votes while BNP-backed Hafizur Rahman Mollah 21,682 votes in Brahmanbaria municipality.
In Jhenidah, Saidul Karim Mintu bagged 17,244 votes while Akteruzzaman from BNP got 16,695 votes. The polls were held peacefully except stray incidents of violence at few places.
