Charge framing against Jamaat top leaders deferred
A Dhaka court yesterday deferred the hearing on charge framing against five Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leaders till April 6, in connection to a case filed against them for hurting religious sentiments of Muslims.
The accused Jamaat leaders include its Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, Secretary General Ali Ahsan Md Mojahid, Delwar Hossain Sayedee, its city unit Chief Rafiqul Islam Khan and ASM Yahia, president of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate AHM Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan passed the order following a time petition submitted by the defendants' lawyers seeking adjournment of the hearing.
All the accused, except Yahia are now in jail. All the accused were present before the court yesterday.
Earlier on February 6, the court fixed March 14 for the hearing.
Syed Rejaul Haque Chandpuri, secretary general of Bangladesh Tarikat Federation, filed the case on March 21 last year against the five Jamaat leaders.
According to the case Rafiqul Islam at a discussion in Dhaka on March 17 the same year compared Nizami to Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM), which hurt the sentiments of the Muslims.
