Govt urged
Save The Children yesterday urged the government to focus more on education of child labourers and uplift of the living standards of domestic workers' in Bangladesh.
The organisation made the call at a meeting when Secretary General of Save The Children Sweden-Denmark Mimi Jacobsen along with Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Svend Olling called on Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandoker Mosharraf Hossain at the secretariat here.
Country Director of Save the Children Denmark Birgit Lundbak, Director Shahida Begum and Programme Coordinator Rahima Akhter were also present on the occasion.
Meeting sources said Save the Children and Danish government were keen to help the government improve the lives of domestic workers, who serve their masters for 14-15 hours on an average everyday.
According to a recent study, Bangladesh is now home to over 400,000 domestic workers, 332,000 of them live in capital Dhaka.
Mosharraf said his ministry has been planning for a special project for the development of living standards of domestic workers, 80 percent of who are minor girls aged 6-18 years.
