Policeman wounded in shootout

A police constable suffered bullet injuries in a gunfight with criminals on Shimultoli-Rajendrapur Cantonment road under sadar upazila of the district yesterday. Abdul Momin, 35, a constable of the Joydevpur Police Station was hit with a bullet in the right leg. Momin hails from Kamalpur village of Sariakandi upazila, Bogra. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Joydevpur police, SM Kamruzzaman, said a team of police led by SI Iqbal Hossain signaled two motorcyclists to halt, but the criminals opened fire on the police team ignoring their signal and injured Momin. As police fired back, Faruk Hossain, 25, one of the criminals, was hit with a bullet. Police then arrested Faruk and recovered a 9mm pistol and five bullets from his possession. The injured constable Momin and criminal Faruk were taken to Gazipur sadar hospital and shifted to the city's Pongu hospital.
