'Bring domestic workers under labour act'
Speakers at a human chain urged the government to strengthen legal initiatives to stop repression against domestic workers and to bring them under The Labour Act, 2006 for their protection.
Domestic Workers Rights Network, an alliance of 32 organisations, organised the human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday, says a press release.
Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies Chairman Habibur Rahman Siraz, Jatiya Sramik League General Secretary Roy Ramesh Chandra, Domestic Women Workers Union Advisor Abul Hasan, Karmajibi Nari Executive Director Rokeya Rafiq Baby also spoke at the function.
They also demanded approval of “Domestic Workers Protection and Welfare Policy-2010”.
