Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said her government will not let children learn distorted and fabricated history of the liberation war. The government will provide ideal environment for children to help them grow properly, she said at a children's rally on Bangabandhu's mazar premises in Tungipara, Gopalganj. Hasina said it would be very difficult for children to have proper mental growth unless they know the true history of the nation and the country. “We will never accept the future generation of the country to turn into psychopaths through getting distorted and wrong history of the nation and the freedom war.” Hasina said the government has taken an initiative to create a "trust fund" to provide financial assistance for the poor children's education. On distribution of cost-free textbooks up to secondary level, she said, “We want to make sure that no one drops out from the school just for lack of books.” The premier also advised teachers and guardians not to put burden on children. "Never ever put unnecessary pressure on the children and torture them for their studies." This government would make “abode of peace” for children where there will be no torture, and they will eagerly go to school for knowledge having fun and game, she said. State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, among others, also spoke at the function chaired by little Kazi Anika Sharmila. Later, the prime minister inaugurated a book fair at the venue. The PM earlier distributed 150 sewing machines to poor women of the area under the "poverty alleviation and development of women" project of Gopalganj Zilla Parishad.
