Local administration with the help of people stopped a child marriage at Golora village in Saturia upazila yesterday. Labourer Riazul Islam and Moyna Begum were marrying off their ten-year-old daughter Sathi Akter, a class five student at Golora Govt Primary School, to Shah Alam, 22, son of Saijuddin of the upazila's Katigram village. Being informed, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Syed Rabiul Islam and Sub Inspector Abdur Razzak of Saturia Police rushed in and stopped the marriage. Former chairman of Dhankora union parishad Obaidul Haque, local ward member Md Alimuddin, journalist Zahangir Alam Biswas and human rights workers Monirul Islam Mihir, Abdul Alim, Babul Hossain and Akteruzzaman Babul were present.
