Govt to increase facilities for Hajj pilgrims: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said the government is committed to increasing facilities for the hajj pilgrims in the future.
She said this when the newly elected office bearers of Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (Haab) led by its President Alhaj Jamal Uddin Ahmed called on the Prime Minister at her officein the city.
After the call on, PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told newsmen that Sheikh Hasina mentioned mismanagements in the hajj during the previous BNP-led four-party alliance government.
She said the present government has established a strong management system removing those irregularities. As a result, she said the number of pilgrims this year rose to near one lakh from 54,000 of the previous year. She said the government along with the private organisers successfully handled the situation.
Hasina said the government like other sectors has allowed private organisers for hajj management and thanked the Haab leaders for their excellent performance.
She also thanked the Saudi government and the King for allowing the huge numbers of pilgrims and ensuring their facilities.
The delegation members apprised the prime minister of various problems of Haab and she gave a patient hearing.
