8 die in road crashes

Eight people were killed and 14 injured in separate road crashes in Gazipur, Bagherhat, Faridpur and Lalmonirhat yesterday and on Tuesday. UNB from Gazipur reports: Four people were killed and 13 others injured when a truck hit a minibus at Nogpara on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Sadar upazila yesterday. The deceased are Harun-ur-Rashid, 50, of Gazirchar village in Barisal; Abul Kalam, 32, of Daudkandi in Comilla; and Sazzad Hossain, 21, an honours student and resident of Gopalganj. The identity of another deceased could not be known immediately. Our correspondent from Bagherhat reports: A college student was killed when a bus ran him over in front of his college on old Bagerhat-Rupsha road in sadar upazila of the district yesterday. The deceased Swandip Kumar Haldar, 19, son of Sontosh Haldar of Koramara village under the upazila, is a first year student of Rangdia Collegiate School and College. Our Correspondent from Faridpur adds: Two people were killed and one was critically injured when a bus hit an engine-run three-wheeler on Dhaka-Khulna Highway at Moslandapur in Modhkhali upazila yesterday. The deceased are Abu Taleb Molla, 55, resident of Balmari upazila, and Al Amin, 30, driver of the three-wheeler and resident of Bagat union under Modhukhali upazila. Critically injured Baki Sheikh, 35, was rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Our correspondent from Lalmonirhat reports: A woman was killed as a stone laden truck hit her at Kalmati village of Lalmonirhat sadar upazila on Tuesday evening. The victim was identified as Jahera Begum, 60, wife of Hossain Ali, resident of Kalmati village in Lalmonirhat sadar upazila. Jahera was critically injured when the truck hit her and was taken to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital where she was died around 10:00pm that night.
