'History vital for nation's development'

History can play a vital role in the development of any nation, said speakers in a seminar at Chittagong University (CU) yesterday. The inaugural session of the two-day long international seminar titled “History and heritage of Chittagong” was held at Faculty of Social Sciences auditorium jointly organised by CU history department and Bangladesh History Association. Jute and Textile Minister Abdul Latif Siddique spoke as the chief guest with the association acting President Prof Dr Enamul Haque Khan in the chair. CU acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Alauddin and history department Chairman Prof Dr Mohammad Ali Chowdhury also spoke. Speakers said a vested quarter is misguiding the masses by distorting history of the country and War of Liberation and urged historians, academicians and researchers to come forward in this regard.
