One gets 32 years' RI

A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced a man to 32 years' rigorous imprisonment for killing his wife in January 2009 in the city's Shah Ali area. Judge Shahed Noor Uddin of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 handed down the sentence in presence of the convict Mohammad Masum. Earlier the prosecution and defence had completed their arguments and the court recorded statements of 10 prosecution witnesses. During the trial, Masum's daughter Mohona gave statement before the court how her father killed her mother. According to the prosecution, at about 2:30am on January 13 Masum strangled his wife Nargis Akhter over a family feud while his sons and daughters were sleeping. But one of his daughters Mohona saw her father killing her mother. Following the incident, victim's mother Amela Begum filed a case against Masum with Shah Ali Police Station.
